Coxswain George Taylor

COXSWAIN GEORGE TAYLOR, of Newbiggin, was also the holder of a silver medal awarded for an outstanding service during the last war. This was the rescue in a 32-feet life-boat of the light surf type of eleven men from the Belgian motor vessel Eminent.

To launch the life-boat 45 people, some half of whom were women, had to carry the life-boat overland. Coxswain Taylor joined the crew in 1904.

He was appointed bowman in 1934, promoted second coxswain in 1936 and became coxswain in 1944, in which position he served until retiring in 1947..
