Douglas, Isle of Man.—At 11.30 on the morning of the 25th of August, 1957, the coastguard reported that a rubber- covered dinghy had been observed by a pilot of a Rritish European Air- ways aircraft some five miles east of Ronaldsway. The life-boat R. A. • Colby Cubbin No. 1 was launched at 11.55 in a very rough sea. There was a fresh westerly gale and it was high water. The life-boat picked up the dinghy, which was empty, eight miles south - south - east of Douglas Head. It was learnt later that the dinghy had been washed overboard from an Admiralty corvette.
