Maria

Weymouth, Dorset.—At 7.10 on the evening of the 3rd of January, 1957, the Wyke Regis coastguard tele- phoned to say a woman had reported that her husband had put out in the twenty-feet motor boat Maria early that morning and had not returned.

At 7.40 the life-boat William and Clara Ryland put out. There was a moderate sea, a fresh south-westerly breeze was blowing, and the tide was flooding. The life-boat searched thebay until flares were seen half a mile from Redcliffe Bay. She made for the flares and found the Maria with her engine broken down. The life- boat took the Maria in tow to Wey- niouth. arriving at 8.40.—Rewards to the crew. S.7 10s..
