Lubock

Fenit, Co. Kerry.—On the 4th of Feb- ruary, 1957, the Dutch motor vessel Lubock, carrying a cargo of barley from Honfleur, entered Tralee Bay.

A gale was blowing, and a pilot could not board her and bring her to berth at Fenit pier. She therefore anchored in the bay. The next morning the life-boat William and Harriot, on temporary duty at the station, put out at five o'clock -with a pilot on board. There was a very heavy sea, a whole south-westerly gale was blow- ing, and the tide was ebbing. The life-boat took the pilot out to the Lubock, and the vessel was brought safely to the pier. Both her anchors had been broken during the gale. The life-boat returned to her station, arriving at eight o'clock.—Rewards to the crew, £15 155..
