The S.S. E. Hayward

Fishguard, Pembrokeshire.—At 5.10 on the afternoon of the 20th of October, 1956, the coastguard telephoned that the S.S. E. Hayward, of Liverpool, was in difficulty fifteen miles south- west of Strumble Head. At 5.45 the life-boat White Star was launched.

There was a rough sea, a moderate westerly gale was blowing, and it was high water. The life-boat made for the position and found the steamer with ten people on board three miles west of Strumble Head. She was making water in her engine room.
