Dover, Kent.—At 5.7 on the after- noon of the 15th of August, 1956, the Sandgate coastguard reported that a boat appeared to be in difficulties four miles from Dover. The life-boat Southern Africa was launched at 5.25.

There was a rough sea, with a fresh south-westerly breeze blowing and a flood tide. The life-boat came up with the motor boat Mayflower with seven people on board, and found that her crew had managed to start her engine and clear it of water.
