Newhaven, Sussex.—At 9.40 on the morning of the 25th of August, 1956, the coastguard telephoned that a yacht was in difficulties in Seaford Bay. At 9.50 the life-boat Cecil and Lilian Philpott was launched in a moderate sea. There was a fresh south-westerly breeze, and the tide was flooding.

The life-boat came up with the yacht Kristy, with a crew of seven. The yacht's sails had been torn, and she also had engine trouble. The life- boat towed her to Newhaven, arriving back at 10.45.—Rewards to the crew, £7; rewards to the helpers on shore, £3 13s..
