Heart of Gold

Margate, Kent.—At 3.2 on the after- noon of the 5th of September, 1956, the coastguard reported that a fishing- vessel was showing distress signals about three miles north-east of Mar- gate. At 3.12 the life-boat North Foreland (Civil Service No. 11) was launched in a moderate sea. A mod- erate southerly breeze was blowing, and the tide was ebbing. The life- boat made for the position and found the local fishing boat Heart of Gold with engine trouble. She passed a tow rope aboard and towed her to Margate harbour, arriving at 4.30.—• Rewards to the crew, £7; rewards to the helpers on shore, £4 4s..
