A Raft

Southend-on-Sea, Essex.—At 5.46 on the afternoon of the 28th of July, 1956, the coastguard rang up to say that the police had reported two boys adrift on a raft in the River Medway between Isle of Grain and All Hallows. The life-boat Greater London II, (Civil Service No. 30) was launched at 6.15.

The sea was moderate, there was a moderate south-westerly breeze, and the tide was ebbing. The life-boat searched the area but found only a raft three-quarters of a mile north of All Hallows. The search was continued until it was reported that the two boys had swum ashore. The life-boat re- turned to her station, arriving at 7.15.
