Virgin
Barra Island, Outer Hebrides.—At 8.45 on the morning of the 28th of March, 1956, the Southend coastguard rang up to say that the fishing boat Virgin, of Castlebay, which had a crew of five, had run ashore on the eastern side of Barra Island. At 9.10 the life-boat Lloyd's put out. The sea was calm, there was an easterly breeze, and the tide was half ebb. The life- boat found the Virgin on Curachan Rock and stood by her until noon.
By then the fishing boat was high and dry, so the life-boat returned to her station, arriving at 12.30. At three o'clock the life-boat put out again, pulled the Virgin clear on the rising tide, and towed her to Castlebay.
She reached her station again at seven o'clock.—Rewards to the crew, £20 5s..
