Zinita

Newhaven, Sussex.—At 4.15 on the afternoon of the 13th of September, 1955, the coastguard rang up to say that a yacht had anchored off the East pier, but that the anchor was dragging. The yacht signalled for help, and at 4.35 the life-boat Cecil and Lilian Philpntt was launched. The sea was rough, there was a strong south-westerly wind, and it was one hour after low water. The life-boat j found the yacht Zinita with a crew of three, one of whom had been badly injured on the face and head. He had been faying to heave up the anchor when a winch handle had flown off.

The life-boat took the yacht in tow and wirelessed for a doctor and anambulance to meet her in the harbour.

She reached Newhaven at 5.30 and landed the man in a Neil Robertson stretcher.—Rewards to the crew, £7; rewards to the helpers on shore, £3 13s..
