He has been coxswain of the Sunder- land life-boat since July 1949. For nearly three years before that he was second coxswain. Since his • appoint- ment as second coxswain Sundcrland life-boats have been launched on ser- vice 25 times and they have rescued 39 lives and saved 2 vessels.
