Valentia, Co. Kerry.—At 3.30 on the afternoon of the 6th of August, 1955, the Valentia radio station telephoned that a motor boat, which had taken a party of visitors to Skelligs Rock, had broken down on leaving the rock. At 3.45 the life-boat A.E.D. put out.

There was a moderate sea and a fresh northerly breeze, and the tide was flooding. The life-boat found the motor boat Naomh Cionnec, of Dublin, with eleven people on board, in danger of being carried on to the rock.
