Lyra

Hartlepool, Durham.—At 9.52 on the night of the 10th of July, 1955, the coastguard rang up to say that the police had reported that a vessel had run ashore to the northward. At 10.6 the life-boat The Princess Royal, Civil Service No. 7 was launched.

There was a slight sea, with a light north-easterly breeze blowing and fog.

It was two hours after high water.

The life-boat found the motor vessel Lyra, of Groningen, a vessel of 200 tons with a crew of five, one mile north of Heugh. Because of the state of the tide the life-boat could not come close to the Lyre and at the request of the master passed a line to her and stood by until the tide flowed.

The life-boat then helped the Lyra to refloat. The Lyra made for Middles- brough, and the life-boat returned to her station, arriving at 6.50 on the morning of the llth.—Property Sal- vage Case..
