Barmouth, Merionethshire.—At2.4 on the afternoon of the 17th of September, 1955, the coastguard telephoned that a fishing boat was making heavy weather off Mochras Point, seven miles north of Barmouth. The boat was kept under observation until she reached Barmouth bar, where condi- tions were dangerous. At 6.50 the life-boat The Chieftain was launched in a heavy swell. There was a fresh west-south-west wind and a flooding tide.
