Yacht Winifred

Shoreham Harbour, Sussex.—At 1.54 on the afternoon of the 10th of May, 1955, the coastguard rang up to say that a barge had broken down off the harbour and that her steering gear had been carried away. At two o'clock the life-boat Rosa Woodd and Phyllis Lunn was launched. The sea was rough, a strong breeze was blowing from the south-west, and it was one hour before high water. The life-boat found the barge yacht Winifred, of Colchester, in ballast, with three men and two women on board, half a mile off the harbour. The life-boat took her in tow with difficulty and towed her to the harbour, arriving at five o'clock.—Property Salvage Cas.
