Mab

Valentia, Co. Kerry.—At 3.40 on the morning of the 6th of June, 1955, the life-boat shore attendant reported that a vessel was burning flares on the south side of the harbour. At 3.55 the life-boat A.E.D. put out. The sea was rough, there was a fresh south- easterly gale, and the tide was flooding.

The life-boat found that the sailing yacht Mab, of Cobh, which had a crew of two, had been driven ashore.

The life-boat passed a rope to her.

She then refloated her and towed her to Valentia, arriving at 6.15. The owner made a donation to the funds of the Institution.—Rewards to the crew, £6 13s.; rewards to the helpers on shore, £l 17s. 6d..
