Golden Crown

Runswick, Yorkshire. — At eight o'clock on the morning of the 16th of May, 1955, the fishing boat Golden Crown, of Staithes, put to sea with a crew of three, including the life-boat coxswain, to haul crab and lobster pots, but during the morning the weather deteriorated. At eleven o'clock the life-boat The Elliott Gill was launched, with the second coxswain in charge.

The sea was very rough, a moderate breeze was blowing from the north- north-west, and it was one hour before high water. The life-boat came up with the Golden Crown at Staithes Wyke, escorted her into the harbour, and arrived back at her station at 2.30.—Rewards to the crew, £5 15.s.; rewards to the helpers on shore, etc., £8 105..
