Mary Jane

Workington, Cumberland.—At 7.40 on the evening of the 23rd of January, 1955, a man reported that he had seen red Very lights off the entrance to the harbour. At 7.50 the life-boat Manchester and Salford XXIX put out. The sea was calm, there was a light south-westerly breeze, and it was two hours after low water. The life-boat found the local fishing boat Mary Jane, with a crew of four, anchored to the north of the harbour.

Her engine had broken down. The life-boat towed her to Workington, arriving at 8.35.—Rewards, £7 17*. 6d..
