The Winters of Newhaven

WHEN Second Coxswain Stanley Winter retired from the service in 1954 a family record of 100 years' association with the Newhaven life-boat was inter- rupted. In 1854 Second Coxswain Winter's grandfather became a member of the crew and until this year there was always a Winter in the Newhaven life- boat. Second Coxswain Winter himself served for 13 years, during which he took part in the rescue of 73 people.

He was awarded a bronze medal for the part he played in a rescue from H.M.
