Althea

Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.—At 8.35 on the evening of the 20th of July, 1954, the Needles coastguard telephoned that a vessel needed help off South West Shingles Buoy. At 8.44 the life-boat The Lord Southborough, Civil Service No. 1, on temporary duty at the station, put out. The sea was choppy, a light south-westerly breeze was blow- ing, and it was low water. The life- boat found the motor vessel Althea, of Southampton, a landing craft with a crew of two, off Hatherwood Rocks.

She was leaking and her bow was sinking. The life-boat towed her stern first to Yarmouth, arriving at 10.15.— Rewards, £5 13s..
