A Whaler

Walmer, Kent.—At 3.55 on the after- noon of the 17th of July, 1954, the Deal coastguard rang up to say that a whaler, with six boys from the Royal Marine School of Music on board, needed help three quarters of a mile south-east of Deal. At 4.10 the life- boat Charles Dibdin, Civil Service No. 2 was launched. The sea was rough, a strong west-south-west breeze was blowing, and the tide was half ebb.

The life-boat rescued the boys, put three men in the whaler and towed her to Walmer, arriving at 4.40. The Commanding Officer of the Royal Marine Depot at Deal made a dona- tion to the funds of the Institution.— Rewards, £14 16s. 6d..
