Tynemouth, Northumberland.—At 3.5 on the afternoon of the 21st of Feb- ruary, 1954, the coastguard reported that a man was in the sea in French- man Bay, about one and three-quarter miles south of the Tyne. At 4.14 the life-boat Tynesider was launched in a heavy ground swell, with a fresh south-easterly breeze blowing. She found the man twenty yards from the rocks. The life-boatmen hauled him on board with difficulty and applied artificial respiration. He did not recover. The life-boat took his body to South Shields and reached her station again at 6.45.—Rewards, £12 7*..
