The S.S. Polyana
Stronsay, Orkneys.—At 10.40 on the morning of the 6th of October, 1953, the Kirkwall coastguard rang up to say that the S.S. Polyana, of Kristian- sand, had wirelessed that she was mak- ing water and needed help. She was then between Westray and Rousay, and at 11.10 the life-boat Edward Z.
Dresden was launched. The sea was smooth, with a moderate north-north- west breeze blowing. The life-boat found the steamer off Orkness, Shapin- say, escorted her to Kirkwall Bay, and then returned to her station, arriving at 4.45. The master expressed his thanks.—Rewards, £14 15s.
