Winifred Rose

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, Norfolk.—At 9.54 on the morning of the 15th of September, 1953, the Gorleston coastguard rang up to say that the motor cruiser Winifred Rose, of South Shields, had broken down a mile south-south-east of the pier, and had signalled for help with a mirror.

At ten o'clock the life-boat Louise Stephens was launched in a moderate swell with a strong south-easterly breeze blowing. She found the motor cruiser anchored with a crew of three.

Her engine-cooling system had broken down, and the life-boat towed her to the harbour, reaching her station again at 11.5.—Rewards, £7 12s..
