The S.S. Nordeflinge

Workington, Cumberland.—On the 29th of July, 1953, the S.S. Nordeflinge, of Cardiff, reached Workington and anchored off the harbour. She re- ported that she was short of food, and as no other boat was available, the life-boat Manchester and Salford XXIX put to sea at 4.20. She took provisions to the steamer in a moderate sea with a moderate west-north-west breeze blowing, and reached her station again at 5.58. She was launched once more at eleven o'clock and took more stores to the steamer. She arrived back at her station at one o'clock the next morning. Rewards, 1st service £5 5s.; 2nd service, £5 5s..
