May Lily

Flamborough, Yorkshire.—At 8.50 on the morning of the 28th of May, 1953, a retired fisherman told the life-boat coxswain that he had heard on his wireless set a message from the fishing boat May Lily, of liridlington, which had broken down under Speeton cliffs and needed immediate help. At 9.10 the life-boat Howard D. was launched.

There was a strong northerly wind with a rough sea. The life-boat found the May Lily, with a crew of four, in danger of drifting ashore on the rocks.

She went alongside, took a rope from the boat and towed her to Bridlington, arriving about 12.30. The life-boat then returned to her station, which she reached again at 2.15.—Rewards, £28 3s. 6d..
