Provider A, Pilot Me II, Venus, Lead Us and Progress

Whitby, Yorkshire.—At 1.15 on the afternoon of the 4th of February, 1953.

local fishermen reported that bad weather was making conditions dan- gerous at the harbour bar, and at 1.20 the No. 1 life-boat Mary Ann Hep- worth was launched. A moderate northerly gale was blowing with a rough sea. The life-boat came up with the local fishing boats Provider A, Pilot Me II, and Venus at the har- bour entrance. The coxswain told the skippers that the bar was dangerous and escorted them in. The life-boat then put to sea again, escorted in the Lead Us and Progress and arrived back at her station at 4.15.—Rewards.
