Sennen Cove, Cornwall.—At 9.22 in the morning of the 6th of January,1952, the Scilly Islands medical officer telephoned that a patient at St. Mary's needed an immediate operation and, owing to fog, the surgeon and his staff could not fly from the mainland. He asked for the life-boat, and at 11.20 the Susan Ashley was launched with three doctors and a sister from the West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance, on board. She took them to St. Mary's, in a slight swell and a light westerly breeze, with patches of fog, and arrived back at her station at 8.30 that night. The patient's life was saved and the medical officer thanked the life-boatmen.—Rewards, £28 16*..
