Mallaig, Inverness-shire.—At 11.0 in the morning of the 28th of December, 1951, the Post Office asked if the life- boat would take the Christmas mail to the islands of Eigg, Rhum and Canna as the regular steamer had not made its weekly call owing to the bad weather.
At 11.30 the life-boat Sir Arthur Rose left her moorings, in a rough sea with a strong north-westerly wind blowing.
She took not only the mail but stores to the islands and reached her station again at 9.0 that night.—Rewards, £19 5s..
