The S.S. Afterglow

Humber, Yorkshire.—At 9.10 on the morning of the 8th of August, 1951, the Spurn Point coastguard sent a message that the S.S. Afterglow, of London, had asked the life-boat to land a man with an injured eye. The Afterglow was due off the Spurn light- vessel about 9.45. At 9.35 the life- boat City of Bradford II was launched in a smooth sea, with a light south- westerly breeze blowing, and came up with the steamer one mile east of the lightvessel. Here she wirelessed for an ambulance to meet her at Grimsby, where she landed the man at noon.

She returned to her station at 1.0 that afternoon.—Paid Permanent Crew..
