St. Helier

Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.—At 7.17 on the evening of the 7th of August, 1951, the coastguard telephoned that a yacht was aground on the Buxey Sands five and a half miles south- west of Clacton. At 7.25 the life-boat Edward Z. Dresden was launched in a slight swell and a light south-westerly breeze. She found the motor yacht St. Helier, of Maldon, high and dry with a party of two women and three men on board. The life-boat first took the women off and landed them at Clacton Pier about 9.30. Then, an hour and a half later she left again for the sands, accompanied by Mr. E. C.

Shergold, the honorary secretary. She refloated the yacht early in the morn- ing and towed her to Brightlingsea, anchoring her in a safe position. She got back to Clacton at 7.0 that morn- ing.—Property Salvage Case..
