A Raft

Appledore, Devon.—At 3.20 in the afternoon on the llth of June, 1950, the Westward Ho! coastguard tele- phoned that a raft, with two men aboard who could not swim, was adrift and being carried out to sea. Twenty minutes later the life-boat Violet Arm- strong was launched in a smooth sea, but with a moderately strong south- south-east wind blowing. The life- boat overtook the raft when she was three miles west of Northam Burrows coastguard look-out, rescued the two men, and arrived back at her station at half past four.—Rewards, £7 8*..
