The S.S. Lona

Margate, Kent.—At 11.2 on the morning of the 2nd of February, 1950, the coastguard telephoned that a vessel was signalling with flags that she re- quired a boat. At 11.10 the life-boat Lord Southborough, Civil Service No. 1, was launched in a slight sea with a moderate south-westerly breeze blow- ing. She found the s.s. Lona, of Stock- holm, three miles to the north-east.

Her captain stated that he only wanted a boat to take his pilot ashore; accord- ingly the pilot boarded the life-boat, which landed him and reached her station again at 12.5. — Rewards, £10 12*. 6d..
