Wick, Caithness-shire.—At 8.15 in the night of the 29th of November, 1949, a Canisbay doctor asked for the use of the life-boat to take him to Stroma Island to attend an injured man, as the weather was too bad for a shore-boat to take him. A strong north-westerly breeze was blowing, with a rough sea. The doctor embarked in the life-boat City of Edinburgh at nine o'clock, and landed on Stroma at 10.45. He at- tended the man, who had broken a leg, and two hours later re-boarded the life-boat, which took him back to Wick, arriving at three o'clock the next morning. In gratitude the people of Stroma held a dance and whist drive which raised £4 10*. for the Institution.
