Hastings, Sussex. — At 2.50 in the afternoon of the 22nd of September, 1949, the coastguard telephoned that a local fisherman had reported to the police that a fishing vessel was making signals of distress off St. Leonards Pier.

At 3.7 the life-boat Cyril and Lilian Bishop was launched in a slight sea and with a light south-easterly breeze blowing. She found the local fishing boat Ena half a mile south of St.

Leonards Pier with a crew of two on board and her engine broken down.

The life-boat towed her in, arriving back at her station at 3.45.—Rewards, £30 3.9. 6d..
