Skerryvore
Margate, Kent.—At 12.41 in the afternoon of the 21st of August, 1949, the coastguard telephoned that a yacht was aground at Foreness Point, and a second message said that a man could be seen in the water. The life- boat, The Lord Southborough, Civil Service No. 1, was launched at one o'clock in a light easterly breeze with a slight sea, and found the motor yacht Skerryvore, of London, hard and fast, with two men and a woman on board.
At her skipper's request the life-boat stood by until the yacht refloated on the rising tide and then escorted her to harbour. On the way back to her station she came up with two other yachts which wanted advice as to their position and an anchorage. The life- boat gave it them and arrived back at her station at 10.15 that night.— Rewards, £23 12s..
