Dolphin
Margate, Kent.—At 1.5 in the after- noon of the 5th of June, 1949, the coastguard telephoned information re- ceived from Herne Bay that a motoryacht was ashore on the Hook Sand- bank flying a distress signal, and the life-boat Lord Southborough, Civil Ser- vice No. 1 was launched at 1.10. A fresh north-westerly wind was blowing, with a slight sea. The life-boat found the motor yacht Dolphin, of London, aground, with a crew of five aboard.
As it was low water, she could not go alongside. At the request of the skipper she stood by while the tide rose, and soon after three the Dolphin floated oft the sands. The life-boat piloted her clear of the sandbanks, and, after seeing her set course for Ramsgate, returned to Margate, arriving at 5.15.
