H.M.S. Diver

Berwick-on-Tweed, Northumberland.— In the afternoon of the 2nd of March, 1949, three naval vessels were exer- cising off Berwick when one of them, H.M.S. Diver, a tug with a crew of ten, grounded on Standstill Point. Her engine had broken down. The life-boat J. and W. was launched at 3.29 in a north-easterly breeze, with a heavy swell. She reached the Diver a few minutes later, towed her off and brought her into harbour, arriving at five o'clock.
