Drifter
Southend-on-Sea, Essex.—At half past four in the afternoon of. the 18th of May, 1949, a resident of Leigh reported that a yacht had capsized about two miles off Leigh and that a man was clinging to her. The life-boat Greater London, Civil Service No. 3, was launched at 4.50 in a light south- westerly wind with a slight sea. She found the small sailing yacht Drifter, of Leigh-on-Sea, but no trace of any crew.
The life-boat towed the yacht to South- end, arriving at 6.35, and later it was learned that the one man on board had been saved.—Rewards, £7 16s..
