J.A.P.

Lowestoft, Suffolk.-—At nine o'clock on the night of the 1st of January, 1949, the coastguard telephoned that a trawler appeared to be aground on Newcombe Sands, and the life-boat Michael Stephens was launched at 9.15.

A south-south-west gale was blowing, with .a very rough sea. The life-boat found the local trawler J.A.P. three- quarters of a mile east of Lowestoft.

She had damaged her rudder on the sands and was lying in broken water.

The master asked for a tug. The'life- boat summoned one and then stood by until the tug came and towed the trawler into harbour, arriving at two in the morning.—Rewards, £13 4s..
