Violet

WhitehiUs, Banffshire.—At 10.23 on the night of the 25th of August, 1948, the Banff coastguard telephoned that the local motor fishing boat Violet, with a crew of two, was overdue, and fishermen reported flashes a quarter of a mile to the westward. At 10.58 the motor life-boat William Maynard was launched in a west-north-west breeze with a slight sea. She found the Violet under oars. Her engine had broken down. The life-boat escorted her to the harbour and reached her station again at 11.20.—Rewards, £6 9s..
