Rozel

Blyth, Northumberland. — In the afternoon of the 4th of July, 1948, a strong north-westerly breeze was blow ing with a rough sea and heavy rain, and at 4.42 the coastguard telephoned that a yacht had capsized in the bay in a strong squall. The life-boat crew assembled, but the pilot boat had put out and the life-boatmen dispersed.

At 5.2 the coastguard reported that several yachts were at sea and probably in need of help and the motor life-boat Winston Churchill, Civil Service No, 8, was launched immediately. She found the local yacht Rozel with a crew of six, making very heavy weather half a mile south of St. Mary's Lighthouse, and in danger of foundering. The life- boat took her in tow and ran with the sea for North Shields, where the Bozel was moored. The life-boat then re- turned to her station, arriving at 8.45 that evening.-^-Rewards, £11 6s..
