Phaedra

PwIIheli, Caernarvonshire.—On the afternoon of the 25th of August, 1948, a south-west gale was blowing, with a rough sea, and at 4.10 the Abersoch coastguard asked the life-boat to search for a sailing boat which had been seen off Mochras Point at half past one, and not seen again. At 4.35 the motor life-boat Manchester andSalford XXIX was launched. Before she got away news came that the boat had been seen in a dangerous position off Portmadoc Bar. There the life-boat found her.

She was anchored close to the bar, but the anchor was dragging. She was the yacht Phaedra, of Barmouth, and had two men on board. Her mainsail had carried away; her engine had broken down. The life-boat sprayed oil on the seas and then went alongside and rescued the two men. She got back to her station at 7.45 that evening.

The yacht later drove ashore. Her owner made a gift to the funds of the Institution.—Rewards, £9 4s..
