Lesal (1)
Eastbourne, Sussex.—At' seven in the evening of Saturday the 17th of July, 1948, the coastguard telephoned that information had been received from the Eastbourne Angling Association that one of their boats, the motor boat Lesal, which the life-boat had towed in six days before, was fishing two and a half miles south of Langney Point. She had two men on board and should have returnted. The south-westerly wind was' increasing; the sea "rough", and anxiety was felt for their safety. The motor life-boat Jane Holland was launched at 7.15, made a search, found nothing and returned at 10.20. At 7.50 next morning she put out again and after a long search found the Lesal, with her engine broken down, about six miles south of Hastings. She had been adrift in a rough sea for over fifteen hours. The life-boat arrived back with the boat in tow at 12.10 in the afternoon. Rewards: First service, £23 11s.; second service, £29 4s..
