June Rose

Barra Island, Outer Hebrides. — On the 21st of August, 1948, the motor fishing boat June Rose, of Castlebay, put to sea at 5.30 in the morning.

She had not returned by half past two in the afternoon and was overdue.

A strong easterly gale was blowing, with a rough sea, and at 3.10 the motor life-boat Manchester and Salford, on temporary duty at the station, was launched. She found the missing boat lying off Friday Island with her engine broken down and her sails torn, rescued her crew of three, took the boat in tow, and arrived back at her station at nine o'clock that night.—Rewards, £11 12s..
