Gadfly

Swanage, Dorset.—At 12.40 in the afternoon of the 4th of July, 1948, the coastguard telephoned that a small sailing yacht was in difficulties in Dur- leston Bay, and the motor life-boat Thomas Markby, was launched in a strong south-west breeze with a mod- erate sea at 12.55. She found the Gadfly of Poole, about half a mile south- west of Peveril Ledge Buoy, with a crew of two. She had lost her, sails and her dinghy and was in danger of foun- dering. The life-boat towed her into Swanage Bay and then returned to her station, arriving at 1.55.—Rewards, £7 12s..
