A Motor Boat
Cloughey, Co. Down.—At 9.15 in the evening of the 28th of July, 1948, the Tara coastguard telephoned that a small motor boat was ashore on Long Pladdy, Ballyquinton Point. There was no immediate danger, as the sea was calm and the north-westerly breeze light.
Later the coastguard reported that the boat had heeled over, that no other boats were near and that there was pros- pect of fog. The motor life-boat Herbert John was launched at half past ten and found a Portaferry motor fishing boat with a crew of two aboard.
Three visitors who had been with them on a fishing expedition had already been landed by another boat. As the tide was now rising the life-boat stood by until the motor boat refloated and was able to get clear of the rocks. She then returned to her station, arriving at 1.55 in the morning.—Re wards, £20 14s..
