Southend-on-Sea, Essex. — At 10.30 on the night of the 15th of April, 1948.

the coastguard reported that the motor vessel Kingfisher, of London, needed a doctor to attend to her chief officer.

As no other boat was available, the motor life-boat Greater London—Civil Service No. 3 was launched at 11.15 with a doctor on board. A fresh north- easterly breeze was blowing with a choppy sea.
