AGROUND IN DENSE FOG Lowestoft, Suffolk.—At 1.47 in the morning of the 7th of October, 1947, the coastguard reported a steam trawler aground near the end of the North Pier. There was a dense fog with a light westerly wind and a calm sea. The life-boat coxswain went to see the position of the vessel and learned from the skipper that he needed a tug. The trawler was the Ireland's Eye, of Lowestoft. Later it was decided to send out the life-boat and the Michael Stephens was launched about 3 o'clock, and ran out an anchor from the trawler.
